The Epidemiology and Risk Team is part of the Aquatic Health and Hygiene (AHH) Division, and is based at the Cefas Weymouth Laboratory. The team undertake research and provide advice in support of Defra’s aquatic animal health and environment policies and participate in EU funded research and other collaborations. Their research centres on the use of risk assessment, statistical and mathematical modelling approaches to prevent, manage and control animal and human health issues associated with aquatic systems.  This work depends on desk based analyses that require extraction, compilation, mining and analysis of data from national and in house databases, scientific and grey literature.

Working within the team you will provide technical support to the epidemiological and risk research programmes, collaborate with other teams to provide advice on data management and analysis.
You will be expected to interrogate, and extract from existing databases information for ad hoc studies. You will also have the responsibility for developing databases to store information from ongoing and future epidemiological studies. You will also undertake a range of data handling activities including database management, data mining and statistical analysis. The role will also include the use of abstract and literature databases to support epidemiological studies, undertaking systematic literature reviews and compiling reference libraries.  

You will have a flexible approach to your work and will be capable of undertaking a range of activities in support of the Epidemiology and Risk Team. The focus of the role will be on study design, data management and analysis across the division, but opportunities also exist to be involved in modelling, mapping and field based studies. 

Academic qualifications and experience required for this post are a degree or equivalent and relevant work experience.
