Postdoctoral Research Associate- Epidemiology of Cestode Zoonoses

£ 29,853- £33,620 (Grade 7)

You will join an ongoing collaborative research project to investigate the role of dogs in the transmission of echinococcosis in Tibetan pastoral communities in western China. The RA will be responsible for logistical planning and undertaking dog sampling, carrying out data analysis, epidemiological studies and modelling simulations of transmission and interventions. You should have a PhD in parasite/infection epidemiology and/or a veterinary degree with post-graduate experience in epidemiology, as well as field work experience.

Research Assistant- Immuno and Molecular Diagnosis of Cestode Zoonoses

£25,001- £27, 319 (Grade 6)

The post-holder will be responsible for laboratory based coprotests using ELISA and PCR to screen canid faecal samples from endemic echinococcosis communities in China and Central Asia. Genotyping of Echinococcus species isolates will also be required. You should have a good honours degree in a bioscience subject and/ preferably an MSc in parasitology or applied immunology/molecular biology, with experience of immunodiagnostic and PCR techniques.

Both posts will be based in the Cestode Zoonoses Research Group on the University of Salford campus, and are funded by a Wellcome Trust 3 year project grant to Professor Phil Craig (p.s.craig@salford.ac.uk).
