We wish to appoint a research associate to work as technical project lead on the UK Copernicus Land Monitoring project team on the production of the CORINE UK land cover map 2018, the change map from 2012 to 2018 and the validation of High Resolution Layers (HRLs) for 2015. The project contributes to the obligations by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) to report to the European Environment Agency. The team will use Copernicus satellite imagery from the Sentinel programme and additional spatial data sources. The role includes overseeing the production of the CLC2018 map and developing and implementing appropriate methods to validate the HRL datasets in accordance to guidelines set by the EEA.

Candidates are expected to hold a good honours degree, and PhD in Geography, Environmental Science or another relevant subject, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience. Experience in satellite image interpretation, GIS and remote sensing, are essential. Strong leadership and organisational skills are important as project manager for the grant as well as team working, time management, and good communication skills.
