At Leicester we’re going places. Ranked in the top 20 universities in Britain our aim is to climb further. A commitment to high quality fused with an inclusive academic culture is our hallmark and led the Times Higher Education to describe us as “elite without being elitist”.

We wish to appoint an excellent researcher a to undertake coastal land use change mapping in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, for the ‘50 years of land use change at the coast: Quantitative analysis’ Project that has been commissioned by the National Trust.

This project will use Google Earth Pro to update a digital land use spatial database. The original land use data was transcribed onto Ordnance Survey collected by students from the University of Reading in the early 1960s. This data has now been digitised and the National Trust are interested in updating this database and in exploring the impacts of National Trust ownership on coastal change processes.

The focus of the post will initially be on manually determining and recording the current coastal land use in a digital spatial database. Later work will require you to visit local National Trust offices to evaluate the land use changes (or lack of) that are identified with local experts and to contribute to the statistical analysis of land use change in relation to other external factors.
You will produce progress reports and contribute to project meetings as well as contributing to the development and enhancement of the Department’s reputation, both internally and externally to the University.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Alexis Comber at ajc36@le.ac.uk

The closing date for this post is midnight on 26 February 2014. We anticipate that interviews will take place on Thursday 6th March 2014.
