Salary: Grade 7: £29,837 - £36,661 with a discretionary range to £40,046 p.a.

The Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford is looking for an experienced statistical modeller with skills in conceiving, implementing, and testing bespoke spatial statistical models on a 2-year fixed-term contract.

You should be fluent in an appropriate programming language and comfortable with the development of new computational algorithms. Your main responsibilities will be to undertake a review of candidate modelling approaches and decide on an optimal avenue for development; lead the development of a spatial modelling architecture that allows formal estimation of P vivax disease burden drawing inference from both polygon-based case reporting data and pixel-based prevalence estimates; oversee the software infrastructure and documentation required to support appropriate computational modelling, including software library installation and updating, version control, and backup, and participate in the publication and dissemination of research findings.

Candidates must have a first or upper second class Bachelor degree or equivalent and a PhD or equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. statistical modelling, epidemiology, geocomputation), as well as demonstrable competence in computer programming for statistical modelling, working in coding teams and project planning and organising skills. The interview will include a 30 min programming skills test. The candidate will join a large and dynamic group under the supervision of Professor Simon Hay. Funding is available to support training, collaborative visits and conference attendance.
