Professor (W3) of River and Floodplain Ecology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany

Forums:

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the result of a merger of Universität Karlsruhe and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. This makes KIT a unique institution in Germany, combining the missions of a university and that of a national research center in the Helmholtz-Association. With a staff of 9,000 employees, KIT ranks among the largest institutions of research and higher education worldwide.
The KIT Department of Civil Engineering, Geo- and Environmental Sciences invites applications for the position of a

Professor (W3) of River and Floodplain Ecology

at the Institute of Geography and Geoecology. The successful candidate will be part of the board of directors of the Institute of Geography and Geoecology and lead the Institute of Floodplain Research in Rastatt (currently, WWF-Auen-Institut) as a division of the Institute of Geography and Geoecology.

The Institute of Floodplain Research studies the function of floodplain and river ecosystems and develops strategies for their management. The successful applicant will be an internationally renowned scientist with a focus on functional ecology. A strong research record relating to the response of the aforementioned ecosystems to external impacts and to the maintenance and restoration of ecosystem functions or services on landscape scales is of particular interest.

Candidates are expected to collaborate with colleagues at the institute, in the department and in the KIT Centers (e.g. Climate and Environment), and to contribute to the interdisciplinary water research at KIT. Teaching includes basic and advanced courses in geoecology bachelor and master programs, geography teacher training courses, and contributions to other, related programs.

KIT wishes to increase the proportion of female professors and, hence, strongly encourages applications of qualified women. Given equivalent qualification, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities. The employment conditions outlined in Article 47, LHG (Law of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) shall apply.

Applications with the usual documents and the five most important publications shall be sent in written and electronic form until June 30, 2013, to Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Campus Süd, Dekan der Fakultät für Bauingenieur-, Geo- und Umweltwissenschaften, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Hinz, Otto-Ammann-Platz 1, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany, E-mail: dekanat@bgu.kit.edu.
